Vitamins

Vitamins are one of the major nutrients of balance diet.

   Vitamin B&C are water soluble vitamins.

Vitamin A,D,E&K are fat soluble vitamins.

Vitamin -A

Chemical name - Retinal 

Source-  Liver, Leafy vegetables such as Spinach,fish,milk etc.


Deficiency diseases- Night blindness & Hyperkeratosis.


Vitamin -B1

Chemical name- Thymine.

Source- Pork, eggs,brown rice,vegetables.


Deficiency diseases- Beriberi.


Vitamin - B2

Chemical name- Riboflavin.

Source - Diary product, banana,green bean.


Deficiency diseases- Crack in skin.


Vitamin - B3

Chemical name- Niacin.

Source - Meat, fish, eggs, many vegetables.

Deficiency  diseases- Pellagra.


Vitamin- B6

Chemical name -  Pyridoxine.

Sources - Meat, liver, vegetables, banana.


Deficiency diseases - Anemia & Skin diseases.

Vitamin -B7

Chemical name- Biotin.

Source - Meat,Vegetables, Tree nuts.

Deficiency diseases - Dermatitis.


Vitamin - B12

Chemical name- Cyanocobalamin.

Source- Meat,fish,poultry,milk.


Deficiency diseases- Anaemia.

Vitamin - C

Chemical name- Ascorbic acid.

Source-  Many citrus fruits & Vegetables.


Deficiency diseases - Scurvy, swelling of gums.


Vitamin - D

Chemical name- Calciferol.

Source- Lichens, egg, liver,certain fishes.

Deficiency diseases - Rickets & Osteomalacia.

Chemical name- Tocopherol.

Source-  Many fruits & Vegetables & seeds.

Deficiency diseases - Sterility in  male & Miscarriage in Female.


Vitamin - K

Chemical name- Phylloquinone.

Source-  Spinach, egg yolks,liver .


Deficiency diseases - Bleeding diathesis.
